Family Engagement Training

The Family Engagement Training course is for anyone who works directly with parents and carers. This course is also suitable for senior leaders looking to develop family engagement and positive behaviour support for families at an organisational level.

We recommend that the course participants already have Team Teach Level One certification as this course builds on the Team Teach methodology. However, we understand that this may not be possible for all participants. If you do not have current Team Teach training, we recommend that you spend extra time to become familiar with the models and language used.

This is a self-guided online course allowing you to learn at your own pace from the comfort of your home or workplace. We recommend you complete all the training modules within six weeks. This includes a range of activities to support your learning and tasks to try in your own setting.

• the context of your particular setting and develop a toolkit of ideas and strategies you can use to improve communication with the families you work with
• how to build trusting relationships, what are the barriers and challenges you face, and ways you can change perceptions
• ways to diffuse conflict and create spaces for emotional conversations and how to work with parents and carers so they feel part of the decision making for their child
• ways to personalise the family workshops you deliver to meet the needs of families in your setting to help them better understand their child's behaviour
• how to use verbal and non-verbal communication, positive listening and learning, and diversion and de-escalation strategies and share these approaches with families

The tasks we ask you to complete are projects for you to try in your setting.

This includes running a family workshop for some of your parents and carers and creating a Programme of Support.

This training is delivered virtually allowing you to learn from the comfort of your home or workplace.

Once you have completed all the self-guided modules online, you will complete a simple quiz to check your knowledge and understanding.

Your Family Engagement Training certificate is issued to you after you have completed every module of the training and successfully passed the quiz. Your certificate is valid for 12 months.
